Mecaniq in CNC Machining

One of 10 directions Mecaniq could take — a possibility explored in full, not a commitment. The buyer picks one, picks several, or holds the whole menu as optionality.

A CNC shop is one of the more interesting commercial spaces in American manufacturing right now. Most of the shops you'd visit in the Midwest, the upper South, or the Pacific Northwest are run by a second-generation owner whose father bought the first Mazak in the 1980s — and most of them are quietly among the most productive small businesses in their county. They are also among the worst-served by predictive maintenance. The reason is structural. CNC machines are mechatronic in the strictest sense — servo motors, ball-screws, tool changers, coolant pumps, spindles — and they fail in ways the machine's own diagnostics catch maybe a third of the time. The other two-thirds of the time, the operator notices something off in chip color, surface finish, or sound, and a senior machinist diagnoses it from twenty feet away. That tacit knowledge is the most valuable asset in the shop, and it's exactly what an intelligence layer can capture. Mecaniq's wedge in CNC is small and specific: instrument the spindle, the way-system, and the tool changer; ingest coolant temperature and load-current traces; and surface drift in the parameters experienced machinists already watch. The platform doesn't replace the senior machinist — it makes their pattern-recognition portable. When the lead is on vacation and the second-shift operator sees a load-current anomaly, the playbook says exactly what the lead would have said. The economics work because CNC shops live and die by spindle uptime. A blown spindle is a five-figure repair and a multi-week lead time on the replacement bearing. Catching the bearing-wear signature weeks early — when it shows up as a noticeable rise in the mid-frequency vibration band — turns a surprise spindle replacement into a planned bearing swap an order of magnitude smaller. The math is simple. The hard part has always been the instrumentation, and that's what Mecaniq's retrofit sensor pack solves.

Radio Ad Script

Thirty seconds of Mecaniq in this vertical. Visitors often play it twice — and every listen makes the brand a little more familiar in their head. That familiarity belongs to the owner.

“It's 4:30 on a Friday. The lead machinist is on vacation. The Mazak's spindle is making a noise the second-shift operator hasn't heard before. The dashboard says: same noise three times in the last two weeks. Replace the bearing Monday. Mecaniq dot com.”

For the investor

CNC Machining is one of 10 directions.

Mecaniq's verb potential is limited but its noun authority is strong: in mid-market industrial software, the .com that names the category in two morphemes (mécanique plus IQ) is the kind of asset that compounds without input. The vertical pages, the audio scripts, the image prompts, the warm voice profile — all of it keeps accruing reach while the buyer decides whether to ship now or later.
